Gearing up for the release of their new album Birthday this August 2nd, Blues Pills release the fourth single from their forthcoming album entitled Piggyback Ride.
“This is my favourite single from the album” states frontwoman Elin Larsson.
Guitarist Zack continues “This track is so experimental for us, it went in a lot of unexpected directions, and it’s definitely the heaviest track on the new record”
“It goes all crazy” agrees Elin “It’s fun, I enjoy the effect on my vocals –
I told our producer, ‘I really want to sound like a pig can you pitch me down?'” Elin laughs “I’m going to need to have a lot of swag on this song when we do it live this Autumn, it’s got a strut to it. Those pigs have real attitude!”

The new single Piggyback Ride was inspired by the pigs in Elin’s neighbourhood. Elin clarifies: “You search for inspiration and sometimes it comes from the wildest places. I live in the smallest little town near Västerås in Sweden, and it’s had a lot of problems with the wild pigs in the woods. They destroy playgrounds and people’s gardens like a bad biker gang of hogs running amok. There’s a lot of them, they’re just living their own wild life with no rules. I felt so sorry for them as I think they were misunderstood but at the same time, they can be really dangerous, especially if they have babies.” Elin continues “I was just thinking about these pigs and wanted to write a song about them, like what would it be like to hang out with them, and ride around on their pig backs, causing mayhem!”
Zack: “It feels like a song that people might want to ride motorcycles to. We’re looking forward to playing it live”

“Some of our closest friends are hunters,” Elin states “Which I can respect, they eat their kills, it helps the forest, but I couldn’t ever do that. I’m vegetarian. The topic of the pigs is always a debate with us. Everyone was hating these pigs running riot. But then they got African swine fever and they had to be culled, and I just felt so sorry for them.”
Even though Elin feels compassionate towards the pigs, she has had some run-ins with them too…“I was walking our dog in the dark and my dog started doing a weird noise. When we turned around there was like 30 pigs walking towards us, with so much attitude. I had to respect that, but it was scary as hell!”
The Swedish rock ‘n’ roll band will release their 4th studio album before embarking on the European Birthday tour in October. Written and recorded in Sweden’s idyllic rural countryside as well as Recordia studios, Birthday took just 10 days to record and was produced by renowned songwriter and studio guru Freddy Alexander.
