They combine a 50s B-movie horror self-irony with an instantly captivating 60s band attitude, a powerful 70s rock sound, and a striking 80s neon look into their distinctive signature style: With two highly regarded EPs and their hard-celebrated live shows, Tame The Abyss have earned the status of one of South Germany’s best-kept secrets over the past four years. After a period of silence, the Munich trio Tame The Abyss returns stronger than ever with their eagerly awaited debut album “They Live Again!”.
They are back! With their first full-length album “They Live Again!”, Tame The Abyss successfully fights their way out of the abyss that opened up for the South German trio shortly after the pandemic. Founded in March 2020, the trio released their debut EP “They Came In The Night!” in January 2021, leading singer/guitarist Georg Raig, drummer Peter Schertel, and bassist Jan Szymanski straight from the rehearsal room to the “Summer Stage” at Munich’s Olympic Stadium in the same year. After further local gigs, their second EP “They Vanished At Dawn!” was released in March 2022, after which the band first involuntarily disappeared from the face of the earth. After numerous problems such as a burst record deal or canceled concerts, the Bavarian rockers have gathered their strengths again and founded their own label, Plastic Fang Records, on which their debut album “They Live Again!” is now the first official release.
Tame The Abyss does not want to limit itself to one genre but combines various rock styles such as Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Alternative, Prog, and Stoner into a highly infectious kick-ass sound. A style mix with which the band may not reinvent the musical wheel, but still travels a bit more elegantly than the competition, as frontman Georg Raig explains with a smile.
An engaging atmosphere that Tame The Abyss has also authentically captured on their debut album. All songs from “They Live Again!” were recorded in a real live situation without many subsequent overdubs or post-production tricks after the trio retreated to one of their notorious songwriting sessions in the Bavarian Forest. Including traditional log cabin romance with cuckoo clocks, deer antlers, and schnapps for breakfast. This creates a balancing act between catchiness and musical ambition, headbanging, and technical sophistication that Tame The Abyss has definitely mastered.
“On ‘This Is The Love’ we deal with the influence of social media and question whether likes and click numbers can replace genuine interpersonal affirmation, closeness, and affection.”
Parallel to the release of their new album “They Live Again!” in the coming November, the Bavarian trio can also be experienced live again on a headliner tour throughout Germany.
