BAND OF THE DAY: STEVE MAHONEY AND THE MILKSHAKES

Published:

After 9 years working at a car wash in Tijuana Mexico, producing a comedy
podcast , and performing in the romantic folk saga ‘Mahoney & The Moment’ ,
Steve Mahoney has re-emerged in his native North West London, with a brandnew band and an onslaught of party music.

‘The Second Referendum’, is the second full album from Steve Mahoney & The
Milkshakes in 12 months.

The first album ‘Can’t Get Arrested’ released in May 2019, is a rockabilly party
album covering contemporary topics from Brexit to Marmite, to disputes with
traffic wardens.

It was described by the NME ‘as wildly entertaining mood enhancing party
music’ and by Time Out ‘‘Quintessentially British slice of life songwriting
reminiscent of Ray Davies and Squeeze’ – Time Out London.

Coming in April 2020, ‘The Second Referendum’ is an upbeat 80’s rock album,
intended as a companion piece to Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born in the U.S.A’ and
‘Sports’ by Huey Lewis & The News.

It documents a contemporary digital dark age, personal struggles and dystopia
with topical humour and catchy pop songs.

The fist single, ‘Evelina (Queen of Costa)’ is an enchanting, synth drenched pop
song, narrating the modern romantic sensation of being in love with a
mysterious and attractive barista.

‘The Milkshakes’ described by Eastenders actor Adam Woodyat as ‘the best
London band since ‘Chas & Dave’, feature at its heart, members of ‘The
Legendary Mill Island Band’.

They are renowned in the pubs of London and Essex, for covering the greatest
Rock & Roll hits of the 20th Century with effortless ease, regularly performing
4-hour sets that feature the entirety of ‘The Last Waltz’ and even ‘Live Aid’,
with little or no rehearsal.. ‘The Second Referendum’ was recorded live in a
day, and ‘Can’t Get Arrested’ in 6 hours.
