Rising Math-metal outfit CATERCORNER have released a new video for the track, The Other Osmium, https://youtu.be/LPoPEjTlomc . CATERCORNER’s self-titled EP is out now via all major platforms.
CATERCORNER is the solo project of James Sherwin. Although CATERCORNER is a new venture, Sherwin has certainly cut his teeth playing in bands around the Southampton area for many years. The early seeds for CATERCORNER were sown way back in 2009 when James sought to broaden his scope to produce something truly experimental, drawing inspiration from more diverse influences. He put together a rough three song demo that unexpectedly fused together various disparate sounds and styles. Life, however, got in the way, and his project was forced to take a back seat.
In 2020, James picked up the project again, and last June, he launched CATERCORNER’s self-titled debut EP. Handling the vocals, programming, production, and all instrumentation for the release, James astutely bonds together aggressive metal and glitchy electronica to great effect. The EP received a slew of glowing reviews and endorsements from Metal Trenches, Metallum Sub Terra, Metal Epidemic, Moshville Times, and Call me Armageddon, to name just a few publications. Tracks from the EP were also selected by a glut of Spotify curators. James comments about the record: “I wanted to create something that was completely unconstrained, with no preconception of what the end result might be—something uncompromising, that completely disregarded boundaries and was unafraid to visit strange places. I feel that I achieved that goal and created a pretty unique slice of metal.”
Buoyed by the response to his debut, Sherwin has also crafted a new video for the track, The Other Osmium. James is also now working on a follow-up album which is expected to see the light of day in late 2021/early 2022. If you’re looking for heavy music that’s fresh and unique, you need CATERCORNER in your life.
