Catalonia-based alt-metal outfit ANKOR return with new single ‘DANZO · lying ghost’, featuring MAH from Japanese rock powerhouse SiM. The track is inspired by Danzo Shimura, an exceptionally poweful shinobi who is often regarded as one of the most despised Naruto characters.
“Danzo is the shadow pulling the strings, turning you into his puppet. A battle between control and awakening, until the strings finally snap,” says the band.
MAH from SiM, best known globally for their breakout track ‘The Rumbling’, which served as the opening theme for the hit anime ‘Attack on Titan’, joins the band in their fight against Danzo, also appearing in the accompanying music video.
The multicultural quintet has grown steadily since their origins in Els Pallaresos, a village near Barcelona, back in 2003. From these humble beginnings, Ankor have built a worldwide fanbase and a reputation for their compelling live shows, through headlining tours in both mainland Europe and Asia. But, it was with the December 2022 release of their breakthrough track ‘Prisoner’ that a new era begun.
With over three million streams and counting, ‘Prisoner’ has triggered a sonic and aesthetic (r)evolution for Ankor, their musical and visual worlds ascending to new creative heights ever since;. The conceptually bound singles ‘Oblivion’, ‘Darkbeat’, ‘Stereo’, and ‘Venom’ that followed have seen lyrical narratives, sonic aesthetics, and self-directed and edited music videos flow together to reshape Ankor in a playful, energetic, and refreshing new form: a fusion of Asian pop-culture, contemporary metalcore, and a dash of Spanish heritage.
The band will also soon be hitting the road across North America supporting Bloodywood and then playing at some of the world’s biggest rock festivals including DEAD POP (Japan), Download Festival (UK), and Rock Am Ring & Rock im Park (Germany).
