NFJ Announces Foreverman, an album Born from a Blackhole.
When Quincy Jones tells you, “All you’ve got to do is walk forward,” you know you are on the right path. Another ringing endorsement was when Q described NFJ backstage at his O2 sold out concert “NFJ is one of my favourite singers in the world”.
NFJ’s album Foreverman is the culmination of a remarkable musical journey – one that moves between cultures, genres and identities, drawing on a life shaped by both Black and white heritage.
The first single ‘B L A C K H O L E’ due for release October 30th 2026
Foreverman will be released on 19 March 2027,
NFJ co-produced Foreverman alongside longtime friend Chris Kimsey, in the co-producer’s chair, whose credits include work with the Rolling Stones, while legendary producer Tony Visconti, known for his work with David Bowie, arranged and conducted the album’s strings.
NFJ’s roots in Tigerbay, Cardiff, the historic docklands community shaped his understanding of culture. Born to a Black father and white mother, he grew up with a foot in both worlds – experiences that now runs through the DNA of his music.
NFJ describes his sound as “Afrolk” – a meeting point between Afrocentric and European influences of his upbringing, his music is rooted in lineage and always influenced by the present.
NFJ trained as a boxer winning the Welsh Amateur School boy’s championships before becoming a World Freestyle Dance Champion, moving from the discipline and physicality of martial arts to the freedom of movement on the dance floor.
Music has always remained the backdrop to NFJ’s life hand in hand with his spirituality.
Earlier projects saw him signed to both Warner and Sony records, before a move to Los Angeles led him to front the rock band Ellis. The band opened for Slayer, while Kerrang! dubbed NFJ the “Vin Diesel of Rock.”
On Q came Quincy Jones.
After hearing NFJ’s music, Q gave NFJ a challenge that would alter the course of his artistic life foreverman: “Son, you need to embrace your blackness.”
NFJ stayed close to Q, who became a mentor for the following six years. That relationship, and the questions of identity opened, what ultimately fed into the creation of Foreverman.
The album draws on NFJ’s past without becoming trapped by it. Its songs carry echoes of rock, soul, folk and pop, while retaining a contemporary sensibility.
At its heart is an artist exploring what it means to inherit history while understanding true freedom is to learn the rules while breaking the rules musically.
NFJ looks backwards without living in the past, and forward without sacrificing the present.
“Don’t put me in a box under genre, put me on record under music.” NFJ
That says as much about the man as it does the music.
The result is an album about mindful inheritance, spirituality and movement – music that reaches back into the past while keeping its eyes firmly on the now.
