TOURING THIS ISLAND

Indie electronic trio Elder Island reveal the nostalgic new video for their latest single ‘Purely Educational’ and prepare to launch a brand new pairs game reminiscent of childhood memories.

A song about parties in a time without, ‘Purely Educational’s video fittingly follows solo dancer Bethany Kyle in a playful game of imagination and intimacy. Spinning underneath the disco ball of a traditional community hall, she deftly switches personas to embody various dancefloor personalities as the camera performs its own dance alongside her. With a ‘one-take’ approach to the cinematography, her infectious buoyancy culminates in a celebratory dynamic stage performance. Perfectly reflecting the personality of the track, the video nods to a listless present mixed with nervous excitement for the return of late nights, and live shows.

Speaking about the new video, Elder Island explain: “Working with Nic Kane we wanted to create something that reflected the playful qualities of Purely Educational as a track. With a hint of nostalgia and a fair few sequins the video achieves this perfectly.”

Director Nic Kane elaborates: “Capturing the playfulness of the track we created a glitzy dress-up and dance daydream at a time without parties to celebrate the nights gone by and remain hopeful for the future. A single take for a solo character, with only the camera to dance with. The video is a nod to parties at a time without.”

Alongside the video, the band also will launch an interactive online pairs game appropriately named “Pairly Educational” this Friday (5th March). Encouraging fans to immerse themselves in the nostalgic world of the album’s imagery, players race against the clock to match cards, all to obtain a coveted place on the leaderboard.

You can watch Elder Island and special guests play a “Pairly Educational” tournament live streamed across the band’s Twitch, Youtube and Facebook channels on Friday 12th March.

‘Purely Educational’ is the third track to be taken from Elder Island’s hotly anticipated sophomore album ‘Swimming Static’, due to be released 28th May 2021. It follows the release of 2019’s acclaimed debut ‘The Omnitone Collection’, seeing the band continue to meld genres with effortless precision. Flitting between the surreal dream-state of electronica and the storytelling-esque lyricisms of indie, the new record tempers introspection with a coveted taste of feel-good pop, offering dashes of neo-soul at its core.

About Elder Island:

Elder Island are vocalist and cellist Katy Sargent, bassist and beat maestro Luke Thornton and guitarist and synth master David Havard.

Carving out a genre-defying space for themselves in our musical landscape, Elder Island captivate with shapeshifting songs. The trio’s sound cherry-picks and transforms elements from genres as diverse as electronica, indie, pop and neo-soul. The result is a web of sound that threads poetic lyricism and unfamiliar instruments over a backdrop of electronic elements and synth-heavy dance beats.

Their sophomore album ‘Swimming Static’ follows 2019’s acclaimed debut “The Omnitone Collection”, which has seen the band amass a massive 200 million global streams and over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Elder Island have headlined 60 international shows to date, performing at large capacity venues across the UK and the US including The Roundhouse (London), The Marble Factory (Bristol), Bowery Ballroom (NYC), El Rey Theatre (LA) and The Fillmore (San Francisco). In addition to this, the band have performed alongside Maribou State, DJ Seinfeld, Folamour and SG Lewis.
